Jeff and his son Jeffrey went on a charter out of
Haleiwa on April 11. We started the day leaving the harbor at 5:30
sharp. We caught some live bait to start the day. The first stop was
the II bouy to catch a 20 pound Mahi Mahi. The first fish is always
the hardest. With some of the preasure releaved we headed North for two
hours looking for more Mahi Mahi. We were enjoing the nicest day on the
ocean that we have had in the last two months. Deckhand, Hopper, was
telling me that fishing in such great conditons makes him happy. I
told him that a 200 pound marlin would make me happy! Five seconds later,
I saw the outrrigger bend over and slam down. Hanap'a'a! A big marlin was
hooked up, running and jumping. Jeff got into the fighting chair,
locked into the 130 Penn International and the battle was on. The fish
only took about 200 hundred yards but he put on a good jumping show. After
only 20 minutes the fish was close enough to see. That is when the
real batlle began, several jumps and short runs Jeff had the fish up to
gaff after another half hour. Hopper putr a perfect gaff on the beast and
a few bats over the head and the fish was ours. The final weight was 345
pounds. Jeff was so happy with his catch that he had Grey's Taxidermy put
it on his wall back in Illinois. We ended the day with two more Mahi Mahi
out of an open school. Jeff had the Turtle Bay Resort cook up some of the
Mahi Mahi for his dinner that night for his family. Way to go
Jeff.
