Short nose spearfish can be caught from time to time and are the best eating of all the marlins. Sailfish are extremely rare in the waters around Hawaii. Even the most seasoned veterans can boast of only catching a few of this beast.
In the tuna family, the Yellow fin tuna is king. Known as Ahi in Hawaii, these fish are the hardest fighting fish there is. They have the size range from one to twenty five pounds.
Mahi Mahi is probably the most common game fish caught while deep sea fishing in Hawaii. They can be very acrobatic while on the line. Because they are so tasty and colorful they are the most sought game fish. They range in size form ten to fifty pounds, commonly found in the fifteen to thirty pound range. The Mahi Mahi is the most common fish to be caught. Fisherman can find these fish with the sea birds flying in certain patterns.
The last of the flag fish that is caught in Hawaii is the Ono (Wahoo in English). These fish are one of the fastest swimmers. Striking the lure hard is their forte. These guys can be caught in the fifteen to fifty pound range. When cooked just right they can be he best tasting fish there is.
